Illiquid charts lie kindly. Liquid charts lie less. Your practice lessons depend on which lie you train on.
Illiquid names distort practice lessons. Default to liquid NSE sandboxes unless thin tape is the explicit lesson.
Liquidity tiers (practice framing)
| Tier | Examples (illustrative, not recommendations) | Practice use |
|---|---|---|
| High | Large liquid NSE cash names | Core decision reps |
| Medium | Midcaps with decent volume | Conditional reps |
| Low | Thin mid/small | Special study only |
Illustrative tiers—not buy lists.
How illiquidity distorts sim
- Fantasy fills on spikes
- Slippage ignored
- Breakouts that live trading cannot enter
- Stop runs that look clean
You may learn false confidence or false fear.
Liquid-first protocol
Weeks 1–3: Liquid universe only, hidden random dates, full logging
Week 4+: Optional thin-tape module with separate tags and lower outcome expectations
Never mix tiers in one session without tagging.
Failure modes
- Penny/thin chase — excitement mistaken for edge
- Open/close on illiquid — worst fills
- Liquidity ignored in setup compare
- Tip-driven illiquid symbols
- Sim P&L worship
NSE session interaction
Open and close need liquidity most. Midday thin names look "stable" until you size live.
Corporate-action days can thin out names—tag anomalies.
Replay Trader note
Replay Trader emphasises decision quality on historical NSE data—choose liquid practice where fills teach mechanics, not fantasy: ₹999 / 30 days, ~300 decisions. Not tips, not guaranteed profits.
Liquidity is a practice design choice. Educational content only—not investment advice.
Volume filter writing
Define numeric liquidity filter appropriate to your capital humbly—not copied from influencer.
Spread check habit
Before entry in sim, note spread qualitatively wide or tight.
Liquidity tier migration
Promote name to tier-two only after twenty tier-one sessions clean.
Open auction thin prints
Skip entries on obvious illiquid open spikes even in sim—train avoidance.
Liquidity lesson week
Optional week 4: thin tape tagged separately, lower entry cap.
Liquidity screen notes
Document how you define liquid for practice—not stock picks.
Spread log column
Add spread note column to ledger.
Tier promotion criteria
Twenty clean sessions before tier-two.
Illiquid pain module optional
Week four only if core reps solid.
Liquidity and costs humility
Thin names inflate sim and inflate costs live.
Extended tier-one session rules
Universe: names you can define as liquid for your size humility—not recommendations.
Before entry checklist: spread acceptable?, volume filter met?, open/close window aware?, not tip-driven symbol?
Fail any → skip scored 2.
Tier-one month before any tier-two experiments unless studying thin tape explicitly.
Liquidity closing defaults
Tier-one liquid universe for core 300 decisions. Thin tape optional module later. Spread awareness and skip discipline beat fantasy fills on illiquid spikes. Practice lessons must transfer toward live friction, not away from it.
Extended liquidity audit (monthly)
Review last 20 sessions: any illiquid entries? If yes, tag reasons. If repeated, tighten universe filter.
Liquidity audit pairs with costs humility—thin names double optimism bias.
Spread journal (qualitative)
Each session one line: spread felt tight/normal/wide on entries considered. Patterns emerge without fake numeric precision. Wide-spread sessions with many entries flag liquidity discipline debt.
Liquidity pledge
"I will not practice core reps on names where spread notes read wide for two consecutive considered entries." Pledge signed day one of month. Break pledge → session invalidated.
Liquidity discipline is choosing what not to click—especially on exciting illiquid spikes.
Wide spread skip streak challenge
Challenge: five consecutive sessions with at least one wide-spread skip logged score 2. Challenge builds liquidity patience visible in data—not just in intention.
Tier-one-only month option
Beginners or re-builders may declare tier-one-only month: liquid large-cap universe only, wide-spread skips mandatory logged. Declaration on day one prevents mid-month illiquid excitement detours.
When considering tier-two name, require written one-line liquidity reason before click; missing line means skip by default. Default skip protects lesson quality.
Liquid defaults, illiquid intentional.
Spread note examples (qualitative training)
Tight: considered entry felt like normal large-cap open. Wide: considered entry felt like hesitation on size and slippage fear. Normal: between. Training qualitative vocabulary matters when numeric spread data absent in replay.
Qualitative spread vocabulary trains eyes when L2 data absent. Tier-one month builds baseline before thin-tape experiments.
Liquid defaults keep lessons about decisions, not fantasy fills on thin NSE names.
If two consecutive wide-spread skips occur, end session early with success marked—the session trained liquidity avoidance even without entries.
Educational content only—not investment advice, not recommendations to buy or sell any security.
End liquidity-focused week by listing three names you skipped for spread reasons with one-line notes; list proves training happened even if entry count low.
Replay Trader supports educational NSE replay reps—not tips, not guaranteed profits.
Liquidity week success includes sessions with zero entries but three wide-spread skips logged—those sessions count toward intensive decision totals and toward honest market respect.
